If you would like to try the taste of local food, Fukuoka city fish market (Nagahama fish market 長浜鮮魚市場) is definitely the place to visit. This fish market is located in Nagahama district that a little north from Tenjin. It is one of the largest fish markets in the nation. About 300 species caught from all over Kyushu are shipped to this market and will be sold to different parts of Japan. Although, market is not open to the public, we can try some fresh seafood at this place. (Market opens for public only the second Saturday of each month) ※Below photo is market hall building (市場会館棟) and restaurants are on the first floor.s-IMG_3123s-IMG_3385s-IMG_3384

At the first floor of market hall building, there are some restaurants that serve fresh seafood with reasonable price. At lunch time, the restaurants are crowded with office workers in the neighborhood. Some restaurants only open from early morning to afternoon.s-IMG_3114 s-IMG_3116 s-IMG_3118

I tried Uni-don (Sea urchin donbri※) at Fuku-uo-restaurant (福魚食堂) this time. Surprisingly, It was only 1000 yen at this restaurant. (Regular price is around 2000 to 5000 yen)
※Donburi is one of Japanese cuisine that put some ingredients such as fish, meat or other on the rice.s-IMG_3119 s-IMG_3120

7 restaurants and a souvenir shop are on the first floor.s-IMG_3380 s-IMG_3382s-IMG_3381

We could see the inside of the West wholesale building and people working there.  There were many Tunas (Maguro 鮪) that will be shipped out to other places in Japan. On the day of visit, workers were packing and loading Tunas in the trucks.s-IMG_3105s-IMG_3095 s-IMG_3099
